Types of Giving

Community Christian School has several options for donors to offer a gift or pledge. Below are a few ways to make a conventional cash based gift. Other giving options include leaving a gift via your last will and testament, a charitable gift annuitiy, or a charitable remainder trust. If you do not see an option that meets your need, please contact Donna Eagle or Dave Powell at 540.984.3431 M-F.

  1. Cash Gift - Typically, each year 90% of charitable gifts come from individuals. It is only through individual support  that Community Christian School has been able to accomplish its mission for the past 9 years. If you wish to make a cash gift now, you may do so in any of the following ways:

    • By Phone - Call the school office at 540 984-3431and ask how you can make a difference at Community Christian School through your gift.
  2. Corporate Matching Gifts - Some people do not realize that through their employer they may be able to double or triple their gift through the matching gift program their employer offers. Many companies have these programs for their current employees and retirees to make contributions to the charity of their choice. Many are for educational institutions like Community Christian School. Your gift is important to us and we encourage you to maximize your gift and it's impact through this type of program. Inquire with your human resource department as to what information is needed, then contact Donna Eagle or Dave Powell at 540.984.3431 M-F to help you through the process.
  3. Gifts of Stock - Gifts of securities are an excellent way to make a gift that has tax advantages for you. Below are a couple of ways in which you can make a stock gift:
    • Electronically through your broker. Community Christian School welcomes the idea of maintaining a gift account. Challenge our middle schoolers with your gift.
      They will guide you through the process. Please be sure to call our development office with the information as to the date the transfer is expected, the shares involved and the estimated value of the gift on the date of the transfer.
    • Securities delivered by mail. You will need to send the unendorsed certificate(s) and a stock power form. They must be sent in separate envelopes by registered mail to:

    • Hand delivered or picked up. Call the school office to make an appointment with Donna Eagle at 540 984-3431.

      The following information is needed to complete the gift transaction regardless of the method you choose:
      Donor's Name and complete address
      Phone number, fax number and e-mail address where you can be reached
      Name and number of shares transferred
      Gift designation (Building Fund or Operational Budget.)

Planned Giving

Planned gifts are commonly known as gifts made to a charitable organization through a will, gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts and other gifts that can provide guaranteed income to you and your spouse for life. In most cases, these kind of gifts are above most banking rates as established by the American Council on Gift Annuities. (ACGA)
Below are examples of more commonly used gift planning vehicles today. Since every person has their own unique situation we recommend you talk to your financial advisor, tax accountant or attorney to have a thorough estate plan analysis done. If you do not have this type of assistance please contact our school office and we will provide you with names of advisors for you to interview.

Including Community Christian School in Your Will

Name Community Christian School in your Last Will and Testament. You can choose to name a specific dollar amount, a specific number of shares of stock or a percentage of your estate.

To do this we suggest you use the following wording:

"I bequeath to Community Christian School, 23749 Old Valley Pike, Woodstock,VA 22664, (amount, or % ) of my estate to be used for… (be specific or simply state for the building fund or operational budget "

If you have not considered leaving a gift to Community Christian School, we would ask that you consider this kind of option. If you have already named Community Christian School in your will please let us know in order that we may properly thank you and you family .

Charitable Gift Annuities

A charitable gift annuity is a simple contract between and individual or couple and Community Christian School. It is a financial and estate planning opportunity. They offer favorable tax benefits, a guaranteed stream of income for life and the knowledge that their gift is secure in perpetuity for the school. Today's rates range from 4.75% to 12.5% and are determined by your current age.

For example, a 75 year old person purchases a $25,000 (minimum, no maximum) single life charitable gift annuity (CGA) from Community Christian School and chooses to receive an interest payment quarterly. The rate is 7%. The charitable deduction in the same year the gift annuity is taken is $19,750.00. Annual annuity will be $3,500. The tax free portion is $2,400 and the ordinary income is $1,135.. And, the monthly income for life is $290. There are other favorable estate tax issues as well. (This is an illustration only. Life Insurance Policy or Retirement Plan Beneficiary

When you purchase a life insurance policy you are asked to name a first and second beneficiary. Simply place the name of Community Christian School, 23749 Old Valley Pike, Woodstock,VA 22664 on the lines provided. It is as simple as that.

You may also do this through the employee benefit plan where you work. Many companies offer a nominal life insurance policy to their employees. Now, without even spending any money, you are able to name Community Christian School, 23749 Old Valley Pike, Woodstock,VA 22664 as the beneficiary.
