Community Christian School was founded in January 1997 by concerned parents and Christian individuals in Shenandoah county. A steering committee, formed and led by administrator, Nancy Ritenour, focused on laying the foundation upon which CCS is built. Community Christian School is an independent, non-profit, inter-denominational Christian school dedicated to teaching students spiritually, socially, and academically from a Christian worldview, emphasizing God's creation and His divine plan for all humankind.
By 2003, Community Christian School had grown from a Kindergarten-through-Third grade school with 6 students to a K-6 school with forty-five students. Throughout the first six years, the school was hosted by several county churches and a funeral chapel. In the Fall of 2003, the school acquired a five acre site on the west side of Old Valley Pike, just four miles north of Woodstock, Virginia. A transition facility comprised of two adjoining modular classrooms was constructed on the new site to house the school until funds could be raised for a permanent structure .
On April 17, 2005, a fire severely damaged our school and we were left without a home. Support from our church community never wavered and we completed our academic year at First Baptist Church in Woodstock. We are temporarily located at Waterbrook Brethren Church in Edinburg. Incredibly, despite the fire and subsequent temporary location, our enrollment has increased by over 10% for the 2005-2006 academic year.
